Abeezar E. Faizullabhoy is a Senior Partner of the firm based out of the Mumbai office. His practice covers Dispute Resolution, including Arbitration and Litigation and Corporate Commercial.
His expertise lies in corporate and commercial litigation (before Tribunals, High Courts and the Supreme Court of India) as also in domestic and international arbitrations. Some of his notable assignments in this area include a multi-jurisdictional litigation covering India, Dubai, BVI and the UK; successfully arguing an ICC Arbitration in Rotterdam; advising in a family dispute both before the National Company Law Tribunal and in an arbitration; advising a religious denomination in its litigations in a multi jurisdictional dispute in India, UK and the US to name some.
With over 26 years of experience in the corporate commercial space, Abeezar has represented clients both domestic and international. He has advised on Joint Ventures, PE Investments, Shareholders Agreements, Share Purchase Agreements, Technology Transfer Agreements and diverse advisory work on FDI and under Company Law, FEMA and other statues. His notable assignments in this area include advising a French auto maker in its JV in India; advising an Italian auto maker in its JV in India; advising on the sale of a mining company (deal size approx. USD 350 million), to name but a few.
Abeezar has also been involved in diverse matters under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Court and advised multi-national companies in respect of enforcement and execution of foreign decrees as well as foreign arbitration awards in India.
Abeezar’s client profile includes domestic as well as international clients across sectors like manufacturing, technology, services, retail etc., in the course of his more than 25 years of practice.
Abeezar started his legal career with Mulla & Mulla and Craigie Blunt & Caroe in 1990 and then joined JSA in 2001 where he was a partner for 9 years. He resigned from JSA to be on the business side and was the Group CEO of Aditya Resources DMCC, a Dubai based investor group and was involved in the development of a 3600 MW power plant in India and other off-shore acquisitions and investments until he joined HSA Advocates in 2014 which he left in February 2019 to join Argus Partners.
